Step Three-
As the pool fills with water the liner will conform to the shape of the pond. Wrinkles should be smoothed out and folded flat. When walking on the liner go barefoot or wear soft soled shoes to avoid accidental punctures. It may be necessary to slow or stop the water to make larger folds out of many small wrinkles. Fill the pond slightly below the top edge. It will now be apparent if the top edge is level. If not soil can be added or taken away to bring the level to within a quarter of an inch.
Step Four-
Anchor the edge of the liner. A more permanent and stable coping can be made by doing the following: Cut and lay a 12" wide strip of lath or chicken wire around the edge of the pond. Add two- four inches of mortar on top and set the desired stones or pavers in place. Put additional mortar between the joints of the stones. When partially dry, about one to three hours later, excess mortar can be brushed away with a stiff brush. Trim the outside edge of the liner slightly above or at the coping level. This will prevent water from entering the pond from surrounding areas. Now the completed pond should be drained and refilled to clean out all construction debris.
Note: If using city water be sure to put dechlorinator in before adding fish and plants.
